thinking time

They've got a great Head Teacher along at the local school.

He's a very easy-going, laid back sort of man with a happy knack, nonetheless, of getting things done. Yesterday morning he was speaking to all of the children, at their different assemblies, on the value for the month - 'curiosity'.

And in amongst all the QI-type of things he was coming up with, he said that he sometimes puts a sign on his door which says very simply -

Do not disturb - Head Teacher having Thinking Time.

I like the guy!

I like a guy who can think like that and happily makes it public that he needs that sort of space and time to do his bit of thinking. And is not too proud to say to folk - 'keep out'.

'Thinking time' matters. And today, like a Friday often is, was in large part just a great, extended version of just that.

Not entirely that. I did get out and about a bit as well and saw some folk. But mainly that.

It was great. A lot of things that otherwise I'd been struggling with a bit, became wonderfully clear. And a number of e-mails I had in my 'Awaiting Reply' sort of box, at last I was able to answer.

They were 'awaiting reply' because the issues they'd raised were complex, to say the least, and they needed a careful and sometimes quite lengthy, response.

A good day. Which owed a lot again to the line the Head Teacher takes.

Thinking Time. We all need it!
