"I'm not being treated fairly: please help me!"
There's a story Jesus told along those lines. A lady who's not treated fairly at all. And not getting justice. The judge is not really all that interested.
She hammers again and again on the judge's door and won't take 'No' for an answer. Eventually he accedes. For the sake of some peace, I guess. A justice of the peace, as it were.
The moral?
If an unjust judge who doesn't care a toss about your needs will finally give you justice - you can bet your bottom dollar that the Lord, who's always fair and kind and full of huge compassion ... you can bet your bottom dollar that the Lord will hear your cries and answer pretty quick.
I spoke to the children yesterday morning along those lines.
But the Lord has a habit of taking the message I bring and preaching that message to me.
Today I've been struggling with issues of justice. There's a lot which seems wholly unfair.
In so many different parts of the world. And in so many different facets of our lives.
What on earth can I do?
Well, the answer God gives me is simply the message I brought to the children myself. Keep on praying, hammering away at the door of heaven and refusing to take 'No' for an answer.
trypraying.
It's a booklet we use, a 7-day guide to encourage the practice of prayer.
And right at the heart of it all there's the challenge to say what our one 'big issue' is and bring that single issue to the Lord each day.
Like the lady in the story Jesus told.
trypraying. And keeppraying.
