One of those days when there's hardly time to catch your breath, but a day which nonetheless manages to be a real breath of fresh air throughout!
I didn't quite tour the whole country, but it felt like it! Edinburgh to Crieff. Crieff to Glasgow. Glasgow to Edinburgh. An equilateral, distinctly Scottish version of the 'Bermuda triangle' (except I haven't disappeared!).
A day of meetings, anyway. Not formal, business sorts of meetings. But meeting with people, in sizeable crowds. Probably some 200 or so at Crieff through the morning and afternoon. Some 60 or so at night for a meal and a time to share and pray in Glasgow.
In both venues there were folk from literally all over the country. A wonderful coming together. Something which pleases the heart of our God no end: and the warmth of his pleasure pervaded our gathering thus.
These were good and godly folk, seeking to listen to one another and learn together from Christ. Brothers and sisters in Christ, who love the Lord, are thirled to the truth of his Scriptures, and seek to be there to support and encourage each other in teach and preaching those Scriptures.
Men and women who know for themselves the power of God's holy Word and who've known what a difference that makes in the lives of countless people.
The numbers involved may be small, perhaps. But they're far from being just quite as small as once they were. Very far.
There are things afoot in our land these days. For those who have ears attuned to these things, there are rumblings all right to be heard. The rumblings of the Spirit of the living God.
There weren't that many either, remember, in the cave of Adullam where David was having to hide. Just a few hundred folk.
But those who were there - a rather awkward, ragamuffin bunch of mixed-up individuals - they'd heard the Spirit's rumblings and they'd sensed there was a wholly different future opening up.
Which, of course, there was.
It was far from being in some dingy cave that we met today, I confess. The surroundings were very different. But the mood was the same. And the future, perhaps, will be, too.
A whole new day is dawning in our land. What exactly that day will involve for us all is far from clear. It may well be a hard and a costly path that we're called to walk - who knows?
But there's certainly something afoot. And we want to be there to be part of it all.
