Why is it veils are sometimes worn?

By widows, for instance. (Scottish or any other).

I guess because they want to hide, or maybe feel it more appropriate to try and hide, the massive raw emotions of the grief that's torn their heart.

Sometimes, a bit like that, it's better to draw a veil across the events that a day has held.

Today's been one of those days.
